On Monday, FOX 5 shared a video submitted by a viewer showing a possible alligator sighting in a small pond at the SoccerPlex in Boyds/Germantown. Park Police said they checked the pond and surrounding area but found no evidence of an alligator.
FOX 5 viewer Osman Assefi told the station, “My wife and I both saw it going under and coming back up and started moving.” Animal services were contacted on Sunday evening. “I guess the final determination is in the hand of the animal control people,” said Assefi.
Park Police tells us, “Maryland Park Police along with Natural Resources Police and Mongomery County Animal Services checked the pond and surrounding area and found no evidence of an alligator. Officers searched the area on foot and used a drone to carefully examine the area of the pond where the water levels are currently low. Alligators are not native to Maryland and the winters are too cold for them.”
Park Police encourages anyone with concerns to call 301-949-8010, or 911 in an emergency, as they are available to investigate.
