355 Shut Down Due to Vehicle Fire and Associated Fire & Rescue Activity

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to an electric vehicle fire in a parking garage located at Rockville Town Square, 300 Hungerford Drive, Rockville, near Beall Avenue off Rockville Pike. Rt. 355 is shut down at the intersection.

At 12:15 p.m., MCFRS Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer reported that a vehicle fire had been reported on the fourth level of Parking Garage A. Firefighting apparatus including units PE703B, E723, PE732, PE721, PE726, AT703, AT723, RS703, M703, BC703, BC704, and others were en route to the scene.

At 12:17 p.m., an update from Piringer indicated a vehicle fire on the fourth floor of Parking Garage A at Rockville Town Center. Piringer stated that there was no sprinkler activation at that time, with one vehicle involved and heavy smoke conditions present. Additional responding units included T725, T731, A703, M732, EMS704, and SA700.

At 12:28 p.m., an Piringer update confirmed that a Tesla electric vehicle was on fire inside the parking garage. The vehicle fire had been extinguished; however, significant smoke conditions remained throughout the garage. Responding unit HM707 was assisting at the scene.

Additionally, the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) issued a traffic advisory at 12:54 p.m. that noted the following intersections closed due to fire rescue activity:
• SB Rt. 355 at N. Washington St.
• Beall Ave. at N. Washington St.
• Rt. 355 at Mannakee St.

Drivers were advised to seek alternate routes, with significant delays expected in the area.
