Sheriff’s Office Remembers K9 Odie

Today, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office honored and remember K9 Odie– described as a dedicated member of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who served with unwavering loyalty and unmatched bravery in both patrol and narcotics detection.

Per the Sheriff’s Office: “K9 Odie was the faithful partner of Deputy Meiklejohn for 9 years. K9 Odie served the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office from 10/7/14 to 04/28/25 as the first narcotics trained K9. From tracking wanted subject to locating hidden dangers, K9 Odie stood on the front lines with Deputy Meiklejohn, never hesitating, never faltering.

K9 Odie was not just a dog — he was a deputy, a protector of our community, and a cherished partner in service. His instincts, intelligence, and tireless determination helped take drugs off the streets, locate missing persons, and ensure that officers made it home safely.

Deputy Meiklejohn and K9 Odie attended multiple K9 demos and career day events at local schools to share his capabilities with students and the community. His favorite part was the belly rubs from the children.

Behind the badge and beyond the duty, K9 Odie was also a beloved companion — loyal, affectionate, and full of heart. K9 Odie loved his family, especially his human sister. He protected her from strange noises, leaves blowing and anyone who knocked on the door. Every K9 has a unique quality or quirk about them. K9 Odie would march or dance anytime he was presented with food, finding narcotics and a good back scratch. Whether in the field or at rest, he inspired respect, trust, and admiration from everyone who met him.

As we lay K9 Odie to rest, we do so with profound gratitude for a life of service and sacrifice. Though their paws no longer walk beside us, their legacy of courage and dedication lives on — in the stories we share, the lives they touched, and the partners they protected.

“Rest easy, bubba. You’ve done your duty. We’ll take it from here.” End of Watch: [04/28/2025]”
