On Friday morning, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire on the 11900 block of Roan Lane in Gaithersburg, displacing 13 residents and six pets. Among those who lost their home was Arlington Fire Department Captain David Zuniga, who was later praised for ensuring his neighbors’ safety by banging on their doors to prompt an evacuation.
Assistant MCFRS Chief David Pazos shared, “Talk about being in the right place at the right time. Earlier this morning, an Arlington County firefighter living adjacent to the townhouse fire called @mcfrs 911 while quickly alerting his neighbors. All occupants escaped unharmed.”
MCFRS Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer added, “Captain David Zuniga and his family lost their home in the devastating fire this morning. Thankfully, they’re safe, but they now face a tough road ahead.” The cause of the fire remains under investigation. A GoFundMe has been started to help Captain Zuniga and his family as they rebuild.
