Unique Olney Building Sold to County For $2.573 Million

Once a thriving bank branch– first Chevy Chase Bank, then Capital One– the small office building at 17831 Georgia Ave. in Olney has found a new direction.

The structure, noted for its sloping roof and billed as an “architectural showpiece,” was sold to the County for $2.573 million, according to Maryland Newsletters. The 4,493 SF building, which was most recently used for Covid testing during the pandemic, will be refurbished by the County to serve as a community center and police substation.

According to the report, before Montgomery County’s acquisition, a local doctor-led partnership purchased the property in 2021, but never activated its plans for the space.
