The 28 “Safest Cities in Maryland”, According to Report

A recent ranking has unveiled the safest cities in every state, including Maryland. Ocean Pines in Worcester County was named the safest town in Maryland, according to the 2025 State of Safety in America rankings by Safewise.com. Notably, three cities in Montgomery County also made the list.

Released earlier this year, the report names the country’s safest cities based on FBI crime statistics and additional data. Safewise further gathered input from residents statewide to gauge their top safety concerns. The ranking aims to spotlight cities with low per capita crime rates and to spark discussions and initiatives to enhance public safety across all communities.

According to the rankings, the 28 safest Maryland cities and towns are:

1. Ocean Pines
2. Frostburg
3. Thurmont
4. Brunswick

Maryland’s five safest cities boast an average violent crime rate of 1.4 incidents per 1,000 people, while property crimes average 4.1 per 1,000 people. Although 40% of Maryland residents report feeling safe– an increase from 32% last year– this figure remains below the national average of 48%. Encouragingly, optimism is growing; about 21% of respondents believe crime is decreasing, up from 6% the previous year, reflecting declines in violent crime, property crime, and gun violence, with package theft being the only exception.
