Greek Favorite Mykonos Expands to Potomac with June 13 Launch

Mykonos, a Rockville staple for decades, will be opening a new restaurant in Potomac’s Cabin John Village on Friday, June 13. The restaurant will take over the space that was formerly occupied by Broadway Pizza, which closed at the end of 2021.

The new location is owned by Angelo Mitsotakis and his wife, Rodi Tzani, who also own the original Mykonos Grill in Rockville and its fast-casual sister restaurant, Gyroland. The consultant and executive chef for the new Mykonos is Michael Zacharis.

The menu features a variety of Greek dishes, including grilled octopus, shrimp saganaki, lamb shank with orzo, and branzino. Vegetarian options include spanakopita, stuffed eggplant, and dolmades, along with salads, soups, and grilled meats like lamb chops and kebabs. The opening of the new restaurant will not affect the Rockville location in Congressional North Plaza, which will continue to operate as usual.

Mykonos, more of a traditional Greek restaurant, also has a sister fast-casual restaurant—Gyroland. Gyroland is located at 1701-B3 Rockville Pike and opened in 2017. It serves open or wrapped sandwiches with lamb, beef, pork, or chicken as set menu items or customizable dishes, as well as platters, salads and sides, Greek appetizers like the tyrokafteri spicy feta dip, and more.

More on Mykonos/Gyroland owner, Evangelos “Angelo” Mitsotakis, per the restaurant website: “Angelo Mitsotakis takes pride in his craft by showcasing his talents in partnership with a plethora of the world’s top chefs. Notable personalities include Alain Ducasse (Adour) and Georges Blanc (3 Star, Michelin). Evangelos returned to Greece in 2000 after successful leadership stints in some of the most famous restaurants that have been honored with Gold Huts: Beau Brummel, Red, and Pil Poul.
