Attman’s Delicatessen is a true Maryland institution, renowned for its authentic Jewish American deli fare and its enduring family legacy. Established in 1915 on Baltimore’s historic “Corned Beef Row” by Ukrainian immigrant Harry Attman, the deli initially began as a small grocery store selling imported delicacies. Over time, it shifted its focus to the now-famous deli meats and sandwiches that have made it a beloved landmark with an additional location opening in Montgomery County, MD in 2012 and Harbor Point (Baltimore) last year.
The ownership has remained within the Attman family for five generations, making it the oldest continuously family-owned Jewish deli in the United States. This deep history is a cornerstone of Attman’s identity, attracting generations of loyal customers who appreciate the consistent quality and nostalgic atmosphere.
Attman’s is particularly famous for its “piled-high” sandwiches, especially the corned beef and pastrami, which are still prepared and sliced the old-fashioned way. Beyond these classics, the menu boasts a wide array of deli staples, including Reubens, knishes, matzo ball soup, hot dogs, brisket, latkes, and a variety of homemade pickles. The deli has garnered national recognition, being featured in Food Network’s “51 Best Delis in the Country” and ranking among Food & Wine’s “Best Hot Dog in Every State.”
While its flagship location remains on Lombard Street in Baltimore, Attman’s has expanded its reach. The deli opened its first Potomac, Maryland, location in 2012 in what’s now known as Cabin John Village. After a contractual dispute led to its closure in April 2020, Attman’s quickly relocated to its current spot in Park Potomac in September 2020, continuing to serve its loyal clientele in the DC Metro Area.
