The Washington Commanders are signing veteran offensive tackle George Fant to a contract, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz. The move comes after Fant, 33, visited the team last week. The two sides have remained in contact since the visit, leading to the reported agreement.
The signing provides the Commanders with an experienced lineman who can play either tackle position. Fant has 75 career starts and 101 games played in his career with the Seahawks, Jets, and Texans. He most recently played for the Seahawks in 2024, appearing in just two games before being released in March 2025. Fant’s career history includes a three-year stint with the Jets, where he started 36 of 37 games, and a season with the Texans where he started 13 games.
The team already traded for Laremy Tunsil to be their blindside protector and drafted Josh Conerly Jr. to compete with Andrew Wylie at right tackle, but Fant provides insurance and versatility for both spots. Fant was an undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky in 2016.
