Cubano’s Bethesda Listed for Sale

After more than two decades as a staple of the Washington region’s dining scene, Cubano’s is entering a new chapter. The Bethesda location of the beloved Cuban restaurant has been listed for sale as the current owners prepare to move out of state. The Silver Spring location closed last year after more than 20 years in business.

Despite the transition, the owners say there are no plans to close the Bethesda restaurant, which will continue operating until new ownership is secured. The restaurant, located on Cordell Avenue, is being marketed by Jim McGinnis of Restaurant Brokers for $275,000, a price that includes the business, leasehold improvements, fixtures, and equipment.

The Bethesda Cubano’s offers seating for 85 guests in the dining room, plus an 8-seat main bar and 10-seat elbow bar. It holds a Class B liquor license permitting alcohol service until 2 am on weekdays and 3 am on weekends. The fully equipped kitchen features a 16-foot grease hood, char-grill, flat top, two 6-burner stoves, two fryers, and walk-in refrigeration, while the bar boasts a wooden bar top, large TV, and 4-tap kegerator. Systems include Toast POS, security cameras, and an audio setup.

According to the listing, monthly sales average about $80,000. Rent is $6,825 per month for the 2,625-square-foot space, with four years remaining on the lease and a five-year renewal option. The Bethesda restaurant’s availability comes on the heels of the closure of Cubano’s original Silver Spring location at 1201 Fidler Lane.

Opened in 2001, the Silver Spring Cubano’s had been a fixture of downtown dining for over 20 years. After initially announcing a temporary closure for renovations, the owners later confirmed the closure was permanent. Earlier this year, the building that once housed the Silver Spring restaurant was listed for sale, and new plans are already in the works: a Japanese restaurant, Momiji Sushi Izakaya is expected to take over the space.
