In a swift and coordinated response by the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD), a juvenile suspect was apprehended following an attempted arson incident in Downtown Silver Spring. Commander Jason Cokinos reported the arrest via social media at 10:53pm on the evening of the incident.
The situation unfolded around 6pm when 3rd District officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Thayer Avenue. A call had been received about an individual attempting to set fire to a food truck.
MCPD deployed their Drone as First Responder (DFR) unit, “Raven 3.” The drone quickly arrived on the scene, providing aerial support by locating the juvenile suspect. As officers moved in, the suspect attempted to flee on foot but was successfully captured after a brief chase. Upon arrest, officers discovered a handgun in a bag that the suspect was carrying.
