Week 1 Recap: MoCo Volleyball is Back

Meanwhile, Poolesville (2-1), Richard Montgomery (2-1), and Wootton (2-1) each took a single early-season loss—but both RM and Wootton’s came against out-of-county opponent Urbana, a perennial power and one of Maryland’s toughest squads. Despite the setbacks, both programs remain strong contenders in the MoCo race.

On the other side, Northwood, Northwest, Paint Branch, Springbrook, Watkins Mill, Kennedy, and Einstein are still searching for their first win of the year, while several teams, including Clarksburg and Damascus, hover at 1-2 and will look to steady themselves in Week 2.

Week 2 is packed with marquee matchups that could shake up the early standings. Will Churchill be the team to crack Urbana and prove MoCo can take down the out-of-county powerhouse? Over in Gaithersburg, Quince Orchard faces a serious test with back-to-back battles against Walter Johnson and Churchill—a stretch that could define their early season.

Fans should also keep an eye on Clarksburg vs. Northwest, a matchup that promises to be a defensive showcase with two scrappy backcourts. And in the battle of the Bethesda W’s, it’s bragging rights on the line when Walter Johnson and Whitman square off.
