Maryland Is 2025’s 9th Most Diverse State in America, Per Study

With Hispanic Heritage Month in full swing and women holding nearly 12% of Fortune 500 CEO positions for the first time, the personal-finance website WalletHub today released its report on 2025’s Most & Least Diverse States in America, with Maryland ranking as the 9th most diverse state.

Earlier this year, WalletHub released its report on the ‘Most Diverse Cities in America’ with four areas in Montgomery County ranked in the top 16. Rockville came in ranked 16th overall, with a #9 ranking in linguistic diversity. Germantown was ranked #3 in the country, with its highest ranking being first in the Cultural Diversity subcategory. Silver Spring was ranked #2 in the country, with its highest rankings being fourth in the Cultural Diversity subcategory and eleventh in the Socioeconomic Diversity. Gaithersburg ranked #1 overall. The next Maryland cities to make the list were Frederick (Frederick County, 128th) and Columbia (Howard County, 133rd).

To determine where the most idea and identity exchanges have occurred at the highest level in the U.S., and where the population is relatively more homogeneous, WalletHub compared the 50 states across six key categories: socio-economic, cultural, economic, household, religious and political diversity.
