58-Year-Old Man Arrested for Assault After Rock and Knife Attack in Takoma Park

Chief Antonio DeVaul from the Takoma Park Police Department has announced the arrest of Charles Jones, 58, of Takoma Park, Maryland, for 1st and 2ndDegree Assault and Disorderly Conduct.


According to police, “On September 16, at approximately 5:50 pm, officers responded to a report of an assault in progress in the lobby of a building in the 7300 block of New Hampshire Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers observed a male suspect actively assaulting the victim by throwing rocks. The suspect, later identified as Jones, was immediately taken into custody. A search incident to arrest revealed CDS paraphernalia, which was recovered from Jones’ pocket and impounded as evidence.

The victim reported that the incident began when Jones, sitting outside the building, began yelling profanities. When approached, Jones produced and waved a knife in a threatening manner. In self-defense, the victim struck Jones with a laptop and retreated into the building, where Jones followed, continuing to threaten him with the weapon.

The victim was able to disarm and restrain the suspect until officers arrived. A knife was recovered at the scene and impounded as evidence. Takoma Park Fire Department responded to provide medical assistance. The victim declined treatment, while Jones was treated on scene for a minor head injury but refused further medical care.

Jones was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged accordingly.” A mugshot was not provided in the press release.
