“Absolute Warrior”: Commanders Praise Dan Quinn After Sideline Collision

The Washington Commanders’ 41–24 win over the Las Vegas Raiders had a dramatic moment just before halftime that involved head coach Dan Quinn taking a big hit on the sidelines. As the team got into field goal position, quarterback Marcus Mariota accidentally collided with head coach Dan Quinn, knocking him to the ground and bloodying his nose. Quinn’s head hit the turf as he went down, but he quickly bounced back up and continued coaching as if nothing had happened, drawing reactions from players and staff after the game.

Mariota, who was filling in at quarterback for the injured Jayden Daniels, said after the game, “I felt so bad. I was trying to hold him up as much as I could… but he bounced up like a champ.” The team was visibly fired up by their coach’s toughness, with several players saying it embodied the grit Quinn preaches. Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner noted, “Everything that he preaches to us, we feel like we saw that in that moment. He got knocked down… got hit pretty hard. Ain’t had no pads on, nothing, came back up and it was kind of like a movie.”

Defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw echoed the sentiment more bluntly, saying, “He jumped up like it wasn’t sh*t. We gon ride for a MF like that.” Other reactions captured by Tom Schad of Post Sports reinforced the same message. Offensive lineman Andrew Wylie called Quinn “a tough MF,” while fellow lineman Chris Paul described him as an “absolute warrior” whose response “juiced everybody up.” Running back Chris Rodriguez added, “We have a motto: BMF. Bad Mother, you know, you can finish it. … He got us lit.”

The moment may have been accidental, but Quinn’s quick recovery and refusal to show pain seemed to galvanize the Commanders. The team came out energized in the second half, pulling away from the Raiders for their second win of the season.
