Update: We have learned of three additional Montgomery County stores closing. An updated article can be found here.
Two Starbucks locations in Montgomery County will be closing their doors permanently this weekend, according to employees and notices posted at the stores.
The Starbucks at 13677 Connecticut Avenue in the Aspen Hill Shopping Center will serve its final customers on Sunday, September 28. This location is one of the newer additions to the area, having opened in the fall of 2024 in the space formerly occupied by Dress Barn.
Meanwhile, the Starbucks at 8010 Gramercy Boulevard off Crabbs Branch Way in the Rockville/Derwood area will close a day earlier, on Saturday, September 27. The café opened as part of The Daley at Shady Grove Metro development, becoming a popular stop for commuters and nearby residents for the last 5+ years.
A letter posted in the window of each shop addresses the community directly, reading in part: “We’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to close this Starbucks location by the end of this week. We know this may be hard to hear—because this isn’t just any store. It’s your coffeehouse, a place woven into your daily rhythm, where memories were made, and where meaningful connections with our partners grew over the years.”
Starbucks noted that it is working to support its employees, whom it calls “partners”, through the transition and encouraged customers to continue visiting nearby locations.
