Song Dog Farm Distillery to Open October 12 in Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve

After more than a decade of planning, growing, and distilling, DC residents Megan Draheim and David Harris will open Song Dog Farm Distillery on Sunday, October 12, in the heart of the Montgomery County Agricultural Reserve. Located on a 29-acre property at 18100 Bucklodge Road in Boyds, the farm distillery will feature on-site production of bourbon, rye, gin, vodka, liqueurs, and ready-to-pour cocktails. The venue will also include a tasting room, cocktail bar, and host year-round events celebrating local agriculture and craft spirits.

Song Dog Farm Distillery brings grain-to-glass spirits to Montgomery County, using grains grown both on its own farm and by nearby farmers. The new distillery’s products are already earning attention, Song Dog Bourbon recently won a Silver Medal at the 2025 Heartland Whiskey Competition from the American Craft Spirits Association. The distillery’s cocktail program, led by Danny Childs, author of Slow Drinks, will feature cocktails designed around locally sourced ingredients and seasonal flavors, along with low- and no-alcohol options. Guests will be able to enjoy locally made food including charcuterie, sandwiches, dips, and selections from rotating food trucks.

A Grand Opening Celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on October 12, featuring a ribbon cutting at 11 a.m., free tours and tastings, cocktails, food, and bottles available for purchase. Visitors will also have the opportunity to meet goats from Bluffing Goat Farm, which produces the goat cheese served at Song Dog. Admission is free, and the distillery welcomes families and dogs.

The 45-seat indoor tasting room is complemented by a 1,500-square-foot porch overlooking acres of open space for gatherings, picnics, and live music. The venue will also be available for private events. “This project has been a passion and a labor of love for us for over a decade,” said co-founder Megan Draheim. “Our farm distillery is an opportunity to build community and bring people together.” Co-founder David Harris added, “We are big believers in spirits terroir… the idea that grain, soil, water, and even local microbes shape flavor. We can’t wait to share the taste of Montgomery County through our whiskies, vodka, gin, and other spirits.”

Song Dog Farm Distillery emphasizes sustainability and local craftsmanship, featuring American-made equipment including a custom-built continuous still hand-crafted in Montana and a German CARL pot still for whiskey distillation. Co-owned by conservation ecologist Megan Draheim, the distillery integrates environmental responsibility into every part of its operation. All spirits will be certified kosher by the Chicago Rabbinical Council, which sets one of the industry’s highest standards for kosher spirits production.

Song Dog Farm Distillery aims to become a new destination for craft spirit enthusiasts and the local community alike, offering farm-to-bottle cocktails, seasonal releases, and a place for neighbors to gather in the Agricultural Reserve.
