The D.C. and Baltimore sports community is mourning the loss of longtime journalist and broadcaster Craig Heist, a familiar and respected voice in local sports media for decades. Known for his professionalism, warmth, and kindness, Heist was a staple in press boxes across the region, covering countless games and building relationships with athletes, coaches, and fellow reporters throughout his career.

Heist’s career spanned more than 30 years, including roles with WTOP, 106.7 The Fan, MASN, and the Washington Nationals Radio Network. He covered nearly every major sport in the area and was known for his genuine approach to storytelling and the camaraderie he brought to every assignment.
Across the region, colleagues and fans are remembering Heist not only for his contributions to sports journalism, but for the warmth and good humor that made him a beloved figure in every newsroom and stadium he entered.
