The Washington Spirit announced this week that defender Casey Krueger has been added to the season-ending injury list, though this time it’s for the best possible reason… she’s expecting her second child. Krueger, who shared her pregnancy news on October 3, will take maternity leave as she and her husband Cody prepare to welcome a new addition to their family.
While she won’t be on the active roster for the rest of the 2025 season, Krueger will remain connected to the team, continuing to train in a limited capacity during her leave. Known for her leadership and steady play on the back line, Krueger’s presence will still be felt as the Spirit gear up for another playoff run.
The Spirit have one regular season home game remaining before the NWSL Playoffs begin, hosting the Orlando Pride at Audi Field on Saturday, October 18 at 12:30 p.m. in a rematch of last year’s championship.
It’s a bittersweet moment for fans who’ll miss seeing No. 6 on the field, but there’s plenty to celebrate as Krueger begins a new chapter off the pitch. From the Spirit family to supporters across the region, congratulations are pouring in for Casey and Cody as they get ready to become a family of four.
