Ro Sushi Co., the highly anticipated Japanese and sushi concept led by Chef Sergii Mainyi, will officially open on Thursday, October 16, inside Elena James at 8551 Connecticut Avenue in Chevy Chase.
The new addition transforms the café space at Elena James into a modern sushi experience featuring signature rolls, sushi bowls, bento boxes, and other Japanese favorites, while Elena James continues its breakfast, lunch, and dinner service in the main dining room.
Chef Mainyi, who brings more than 15 years of experience in Japanese cuisine and sushi in the D.C. area, has collaborated with Elena James co-owners Chef Colin McClimans and Danilo Simic, also behind acclaimed D.C. restaurants Opal and Nina May, to create a menu that blends traditional technique with creative presentation.
The name “Ro,” derived from the Japanese character 路 (meaning “path” or “route”), represents the thoughtful journey behind each dish, from ingredient sourcing to plating and guest experience.
“After months of preparation, we’re thrilled to finally welcome guests to Ro Sushi Co.,” said Chef Mainyi. “Our goal is to bring the precision and artistry of Japanese cuisine to Chevy Chase in an approachable, modern way.” Guests can look forward to dine-in and takeout options beginning Thursday, with plans for expanded lunch offerings in the coming weeks.
