The Shoppers grocery store in Germantown will close its doors next month, according to a letter sent to employees on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
The message, addressed to the store’s team members, stated that after “a careful evaluation of store performance and operational standards,” the company made the difficult decision to close the Germantown location. Employees were informed that their final day of work will be on or before November 15, 2025, in accordance with union agreements.
The letter expressed appreciation for staff members’ dedication and service, noting, “We want to sincerely thank you for your dedication, hard work, and contributions to this store and the community over the years. Your efforts have been greatly appreciated, and we are grateful for your service.”
The company said human resources and union representatives will assist affected employees during the transition. The Germantown store joins a growing list of Shoppers locations that have closed in recent years as the regional chain continues to scale back operations across Maryland.
