Montgomery County Football Top 10: Week 7 Rankings

With the regular season officially crossing the midway point, the cream is rising to the top across Montgomery County. Quince Orchard survived its first true scare of the season, while several contenders are quietly building momentum for the playoff push. Here’s how the county’s best stack up heading into Week 7:

1) Quince Orchard (6-0) | Last Week: 1
What was shaping up to be a routine blowout suddenly turned into the Game of the Year in Gaithersburg. The Cougars watched a 21-point cushion evaporate as Sherwood stormed back to tie things late but QO responded like champions. Two late touchdowns sealed a 35-28 win, cementing their place as the undisputed top dog in MoCo. Diego Rodriguez strengthened his county MVP case with two touchdown receptions, while sophomore DB Amar’ee Wilson came up huge with a pair of interceptions. The Cougars remain the lone unbeaten team in the county, owning wins over the No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 squads. A lighter schedule ahead begins with a road trip to Clarksburg.

2) Paint Branch (5-1) | Last Week: 3
Business as usual in Burtonsville. The Panthers rolled through Springbrook 63-0, posting all their points in the first half. Star back Alijah Bah ran wild again, tallying 198 yards and four touchdowns in just two quarters. PB’s offense continues to look untouchable against lesser foes, but the real tests loom large in the final stretch. For now, Whitman awaits, a matchup that should extend Paint Branch’s hot streak before the fireworks arrive later this month.

3) Sherwood (5-1) | Last Week: 2
Sherwood’s second-half explosion at the CougarDome turned heads statewide, even in defeat. After falling behind 28-7, the Warriors clawed all the way back to even the score behind QB Matthew Larsen’s three touchdown passes and relentless defensive pressure from Jefferson Serkfem, who logged multiple sacks. Costly turnovers doomed them late, but the Warriors proved they belong in the same breath as QO. Expect a sharp rebound against Wootton this week.

4) Churchill (5-1) | Last Week: 4
The Bulldogs took care of business with a 51-7 demolition of Gaithersburg. Running back Noah Zhang spearheaded the ground attack with 89 yards and three touchdowns, while QB Hunter Humphires stayed sharp with 228 passing yards and two scores. Churchill’s efficiency and depth continue to impress, but a tricky road test at Seneca Valley looms, a matchup that’s often been closer than expected in recent years.

5) Blake (5-1) | Last Week: 5
The Bengals keep pounding away at overmatched opponents, this time torching Magruder 49-7. Quarterback Wilton Cameron was in full command, tossing for 294 yards and five touchdowns. Senior receiver Armani Fowlkes continued his breakout campaign with 120 yards and a score. Blake’s schedule ramps up quickly, though, the Bengals head to Bethesda for a marquee showdown with B-CC that could decide playoff positioning in 4A.

6) Northwest (3-3) | Last Week: 6
Now that looked like the Northwest of old. The Jaguars dismantled rival Seneca Valley 45-7 in the King’s Trophy rivalry, their largest win in the series since the 2014 championship season. Quarterback Jayden Vongprachanh-Nelson posted 210 passing yards and three touchdowns, while the defense completely suffocated SV’s offense. If they can repeat that dominance against Walter Johnson this week, the annual QO-Northwest clash in Week 8 might just feel like old times again.

7) Richard Montgomery (4-2) | Last Week: 9
The Rockets continue to quietly stack wins. Their defense stole the show in a 21-12 victory over Wootton, scoring twice, once on a pick-six by DB Isiah Womack and again on a scoop-and-score by LB Graham Hester. RM’s offense still has room to grow, but their defensive swagger has them firmly in the top ten conversation. They’ll look to make it three straight wins when Gaithersburg comes to town.

8) Bethesda-Chevy Chase (3-3) | Last Week: 10
The Barons earned some neighborhood bragging rights with a 28-21 victory over rival Walter Johnson. Running back Gabe Eisler was electric, rushing for 184 yards and a touchdown while carrying the offense late. Now comes their biggest test yet, a clash with Blake that will determine whether B-CC can hang with the county’s elite or remain just outside the top tier.

9) Damascus (4-2) | Last Week: 7
A humbling night in Carroll County as the Swarmin’ Hornets were stung 35-7 by Westminster. The normally stout defense couldn’t find an answer for the Owls’ balanced attack. Expect Coach Klotz’s crew to refocus quickly with a visit from Einstein this week. The Hornets are still dangerous, but they’ll need to tighten things up before playoff time.

10) Seneca Valley (3-3) | Last Week: 8
Seneca Valley’s rivalry loss to Northwest was as lopsided as it’s been in a decade. QB Terence Krangar was the lone bright spot, totaling 138 yards and the team’s only touchdown. The Screaming Eagles are talented but inconsistent—they’ll need to regroup fast before Churchill rolls into Germantown. Another rough night could push them out of the top ten.
