In one of the biggest surprises of the Montgomery County football slate this season, Bethesda-Chevy Chase (4-3) delivered a signature victory Friday night, toppling visiting Blake (5-2) by a score of 28-13 in Downtown Bethesda.
The Barons came ready for the spotlight and wasted no time seizing momentum. Senior Jaylen Ball electrified the home crowd with a 90-yard pick-six, turning defense into instant offense and setting the tone for a physical, opportunistic performance. Not to be outdone, senior Jack Nucci took the 3rd quarter kickoff 99 yards to the house, giving B-CC an early cushion that Blake would never recover from.
While the big plays drew the headlines, it was the relentless work of senior running back Gabe Eisler that powered the Barons all night. Eisler carried the load with 28 bruising rushes for 165 yards and two touchdowns, battering the Bengals’ defense and controlling the clock.
On the other side of the ball, B-CC’s defense swarmed Blake from start to finish, racking up multiple sacks and key stops to stifle one of the county’s more explosive offenses. The Barons’ combination of discipline and playmaking proved decisive as they handed the Bengals just their second loss of the season.
With the upset win, B-CC climbs above .500 and sets its sights on the stretch run, beginning with a road trip to Springbrook (0-7) next week. Blake, meanwhile, will look to bounce back when it visits Paint Branch (6-1), which is fresh off a dominant 61-0 win over Whitman.
For Bethesda-Chevy Chase, this was more than just a victory, it was a statement. The Barons are no longer sneaking up on anyone.
