Two years of rebuilding, belief, and relentless effort paid off under the Friday night lights at Wheaton, where the Knights rolled past Einstein 40-6 to cap one of the program’s best seasons in decades.
The victory not only improved Wheaton to 7-2, but also cemented the school’s first winning record since 2006, when the Knights finished 6-4, and their best overall campaign since going 5-5 in 2015.
More importantly, Coach Jermaine Howell’s team has clinched the right to host a playoff game in the Maryland 4A bracket, a milestone that would’ve seemed almost unimaginable not long ago. “This is what we’ve been working toward,” Howell said. “Two years ago, we talked about changing the standard, and these guys bought in from day one.”
Senior running back Omari Hinds was the spark once again, breaking off touchdown runs of 71 and 60 yards, electrifying the home crowd and setting the tone early. Hinds also forced a fumble, one of two Wheaton takeaways on the night, as the Knights’ defense suffocated Einstein from start to finish.
As the final whistle blew, players and fans alike soaked in a long-awaited moment of pride. A playoff home game now awaits, a testament to how far the Knights have come, and a sign that Wheaton football is officially back on the map.
