Dan Quinn Will Take Over Calling the Defense for Washington

The Washington Commanders are making a significant in-season adjustment on defense as head coach Dan Quinn will assume play-calling duties beginning this week. The move comes amid a wave of poor play and defensive injuries that have tested the team’s depth and continuity.

Defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. will remain on staff and continue assisting with game planning throughout the week. On game days, Whitt will return to the coaching box, while Quinn will call the defense from the field.

The transition comes at a challenging time for Washington’s defense. Second-round pick and starting cornerback Trey Amos is expected to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a fractured fibula. He joins a growing list of injured starters that includes Deatrich Wise, Will Harris, Javontae Jean-Baptiste, Dorance Armstrong, and Marshon Lattimore all sidelined with major injuries.

Quinn, known for his aggressive, fast-flowing defensive philosophy, will look to stabilize a depleted unit that has struggled to find consistency as the team heads to Madrid, Spain to play the Dolphins.
