Dunkin’/Baskin Robbins Set to Replace Closed Starbucks In Gaithersburg

A new Dunkin’/Baskin Robbins is coming to 898 Muddy Branch Road in Gaithersburg, filling the former Starbucks space in Muddy Branch Square (photo is a rendering, signage is not yet up). The Starbucks, which closed earlier in September, was one of five Montgomery County stores shut down as part of a nationwide $1 billion restructuring plan.

The upcoming Muddy Branch Square location adds to a period of significant expansion for Dunkin’ across Montgomery County, with multiple new stores in various stages of development. There is no timeline available for the opening of this location.

In Derwood, construction is nearly complete at 17700 Muncaster Road, where Dunkin’ is converting a former child-care facility into a 2,500SF restaurant. Plane include a drive-thru, pedestrian and bicycle improvements, and a new left-turn lane to improve traffic safety in the area. Though the project has encountered delays related to permitting and roadway requirements, it’s nearly ready to go.

On Norbeck Road in Rockville, Dunkin’ is taking over the space at 4011 Norbeck Road, previously home to Sassy Cleaners. The longtime dry-cleaning business recently closed after more than 30 years in operation, making way for the coffee and donut chain’s arrival. Timeline details are not yet available for this location.

A fourth location is planned as part of the redevelopment of the Rockshire Village Shopping Center at 2401 Wootton Parkway, directly across from Wootton High School. Developer EYA is transforming the long-vacant site into a mixed-use community featuring 60 new residential units, a neighborhood park, and more than 5,000SF of retail space. Completion of the overall project is expected in 2027.
