Detectives with the Gaithersburg Police Department have arrested a man in connection with a shooting that occurred in late October near the Rio Lakefront area.
In an update released on December 10, police announced that 41-year-old Christopher Renta, of Gaithersburg, has been taken into custody. Renta is charged with first-degree assault, use of a firearm in a violent crime, and reckless endangerment. Detectives identified him as a suspect during the course of the investigation before arresting him and transporting him to the Montgomery County Detention Center.
The shooting was first reported on October 25, 2025, when officers responded around 7:10 p.m. to the 9800 block of Washingtonian Boulevard for a report of gunfire. Witnesses on scene confirmed that an incident had taken place, and a short time later, Montgomery County Police were notified that an adult male had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. According to investigators, the shooting occurred inside a vehicle, and at the time, police said there was no known threat to the surrounding community.
