Sherwood High School was briefly evacuated Thursday afternoon after a malfunction in the school’s sprinkler system triggered the fire alarm near the start of the final class period, according to a message sent to families by Principal Tim Britton.
Fire crews responded to the Olney school and quickly determined that a broken sprinkler system unit had caused water to leak, activating the alarm. The fire department shut off the water to the affected area and gave the school the all clear shortly afterward.
Once the situation was deemed safe, students were allowed back into the building briefly to retrieve their personal belongings before dismissal. Montgomery County maintenance personnel have been notified and are scheduled to make repairs to the system.
No injuries were reported. Principal Britton encouraged families with questions to contact him directly.
