Driver Crashes Into Giant in Leisure World, Transported to Hospital With Minor Injuries

A driver crashed into the Giant Food grocery store in Leisure World on Sunday afternoon, prompting a response from Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews.

According to MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer at 2:18 pm, the crash occurred at the Giant Food store along International Drive, off Georgia Avenue. Fire and rescue units responded to a report of a single vehicle that had struck the building. At that time, there were reportedly no injuries to customers inside the store.

In an update at 2:37 pm, Assistant Chief David Pazos said crews confirmed a single-vehicle collision into the Giant Foods building at 3860 International Drive in Silver Spring. The adult male driver was transported with non-life-threatening injuries.

MCFRS also notified building code enforcement following the crash. Officials said the Giant store remained open after the incident. No further details have been released about what caused the crash.
