Derwood McDonald’s to Close in Early 2026

The McDonald’s located in Derwood (7200 Muncaster Mill Rd.) is expected to close by the end of the first quarter of 2026, marking the end of a decades-long run for the fast-food restaurant in the Red Mill Shops shopping center.

The news first surfaced after a recent post in a local Derwood Facebook group by resident Irene Johnson, who noticed a listing indicating that a 3,600SF pad site with a drive-thru was available for lease at Red Mill Shops. After reaching out for more information, Johnson was told via email that the building would be available at the end of Q1.

We visited the Derwood McDonald’s and spoke with the manager on duty, who confirmed that the store would be “closing soon,” but said they had not been given an exact date. Chris Nowalk of GoldLeaf Associates, who is handling the leasing of the property, confirmed that the McDonald’s is expected to close by the end of Q1 2026, meaning by March 31, and that the freestanding building is officially available to lease.

According to SDAT records, the McDonald’s building was constructed in 1985, making it a 40-year-old structure that has served generations of local residents and commuters passing through the area. As more details become available regarding the restaurant’s final day of operation or the future of the site, we will continue to share updates.
