Chimney Fire Damages Home Tuesday Evening

Fire and rescue crews responded Tuesday evening to a chimney fire at a single-family home in the Cloverly area.

According to MCFRS Chief Public Information Officer Pete Piringer, firefighters were dispatched around 5:04pm to a home in the 1000 block of Windmill Lane, near Lear Lane, for a reported possible chimney fire. Multiple units responded to the scene, including engines, trucks, ambulances, and command units.

An update at 5:06pm confirmed that the fire originated in the fireplace and extended into an exterior wall of the home. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire. One patient was evaluated on scene by MCFRS EMS personnel, though no additional details on injuries were immediately released.

MCFRS Captain Franco Martinez used the incident as a reminder to homeowners about chimney safety. “If you don’t remember the last time you’ve had your chimney cleaned, then it’s probably overdue,” Martinez said. “Chimneys should be inspected and cleaned annually.”
