Last summer we let you know that Potomac Foods Group leased part of the parking lot from the property owner, Safeway, at 15411 New Hampshire Ave to build a new Burger King restaurant (with drive-thru). Demolition of the previous bank building occurred in early 2022 and construction has been ongoing ever since. After a few delays, it appears the restaurant is ready to go and will be opening very soon (photos below). An exact date is not yet available.

The process for Burger King coming to the shopping center included Safeway applying for a reduction in the number of parking spaces required for the Safeway store. A parking waiver is needed because removing the parking spaces necessary to build the new Burger King will reduce the number of parking spaces for Safeway below the minimum required by the Zoning Ordinance. Safeway filed the amendment requesting to remove the parking easement on the Burger King site and was eventually approved after the initial application was filed a couple years back.

The new Burger King is accessible from an internal drive aisle on the Safeway Property, which connects to Briggs Chaney Road and New Hampshire; or from Cloverly Street. Burger King bad consolidated access to Cloverly Street by eliminating the two curb cuts on Cloverly Street closest to MD650. Eighteen parking spaces are provided on-site, broken into two rows, perpendicular to the internal drive aisles. Burger King will also offer 10,540 square feet of Amenity Open Space made up of landscaped/lawn area, sidewalks and an outdoor patio with stamped concrete, seating, bike racks, pedestrian scale lighting, and street trees that will provide shade. The seating area is situated along Cloverly Street next to the front entrance, between the building and sidewalk.

When Drs. Eric and Kevin Chai started their practice (www.ColesvilleDentistry.com), they had five operatories. At the end of last year they were up to seven operstories and were at full capacity, but still receiving many new requests for new patients. They soon realized that we needed to make some major changes to help accommodate the increased patient flow.  They began their major expansion March 2023 and next week it will be fully open with 14 total operatories to better serve patients in the area.  “We essentially took over 2 adjacent units.” Dr. Kevin Chai told us.
“Dr. Eric and I truly feel so blessed to be able to serve our hometown community in Silver Spring.  We currently work down the street from where we grew up!  Our mission is to create life-long relationships and raving patients by providing compassionate, comfortable, and comprehensive dental care.  Our passion is to really give patients an amazing dental experience from front to back and we want every patient who leaves our practice to feel uplifted, encouraged and just better in all senses.”
The doctors were named 2023 Washingtonian Top Docs.  They provide care in all specialties of dentistry including but not limited to preventive services, emergency services, fillings, dental implants, same day crowns, Invisalign treatment, root canals, extractions, and whitening. “We also possess some of the best dental technologies to enhance efficiency and patient comfort. We’re highly regarded and rated in the local community.  Currently, we have 760 5-star Google reviews.”
In addition to the full reopening following their expansion soon next week, they’re bringing on a new doctor– Dr. Daniel Chu who was also born and raised in Silver Spring and graduated from Paint Branch High School.  Photos below.

In an update from early this past summer, Bourbon, Wings, and Beer (from the owners of Dominic’s Italian Grille in Colesville) told us they hoped to open by the end of August.  B.W.B. LLC had a hearing with Montgomery County’s Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) on May 19th at 10am where it was granted its “Class B Beer, Wine, and Liquor License, On Sale Only.” and renovations were ongoing. Recently, signage was removed and ‘for lease’ signs were put up on the restaurant. Today we received confirmation that the new restaurant will not be opening.

Back in January, we let you know that Buffalo Wings and Beer had closed in the Cloverly Village Center (15412 New Hamphire Ave). In February we let you know that the plan was for the restaurant to once again open, after being taken over by the owners of Dominic’s Italian Grille in Colesville. The BWB name was to remain with the acronym having a slightly different meaning as the restaurant was to be named Bourbon, Wings, and Beer. A reason why plans fell through was not provided.

About the previous restaurant, Buffalo Wings and Beer: It was founded and created in 1995 by the late Ira Levy, a Silver Spring native who was able to grow the local chain to 10 restaurants across the DMV at one point. The first restaurant opened in Gaithersburg after Levy saw a restaurant go out of business on Snouffer School Road, near the old Gentleman Jim’s location. The eventual expansion included locations in Cloverly, Baltimore, Eldersburg, Frederick, Germantown, Glen Burnie, Hagerstown, and Leesburg, VA among others, even becoming a sponsor of the Washington Football Team for a few years. A highlight for the local restaurant chain was winning the National Buffalo Wing Festival that is held every year in Buffalo, NY. Buffalo Wings and Beer was first selected to compete in 2008, earned a 2nd place finish in 2009, and won the competition of over 185 restaurants in 2010. The Cloverly location was the last remaining of the restaurants.
