One Arrest Made After Overnight Vehicle Break-Ins, More Suspects Sought

Montgomery County Police are investigating a string of overnight vehicle break-ins across parts of Silver Spring, with at least one suspect arrested and others still outstanding, according to 3rd District Commander Capt. Jason Cokinos.

The incidents occurred overnight from Sunday, Jan. 12 into Monday morning, Jan. 13. Police say multiple vehicles were broken into in the Castle Boulevard area, where a “sharp-eyed” community member called police after noticing a suspicious individual near parked cars. Officers from the 3rd District responded quickly and apprehended a suspect at the scene.

Police recovered stolen property from several vehicles, along with stolen packages believed to be connected to the break-ins. Additional vehicle break-ins were also reported in the Forest Glen area. MCPD says airbags were stolen from vehicles in multiple locations across the district as well. The department’s Patrol Investigations Unit is actively investigating all of the incidents and working to identify additional suspects.

Police are urging residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately by calling 911 if a crime is in progress. MCPD says overnight patrols will be increased in known hotspots and parking garages throughout the Silver Spring area. Additional information about the suspect has not been released.
