Amazon announced Tuesday morning that it will close all of its Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh grocery stores nationwide, a total of 72 locations, as the company shifts its focus to Whole Foods Market and grocery delivery through Amazon.com.
The closures include all Amazon Fresh locations in Montgomery County. That includes two stores in Chevy Chase, one location in Gaithersburg, and one in White Oak. According to GeekWire, the final day of operation for most Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go locations will be this Sunday, February 1. California stores are excluded from that timeline.
Amazon has indicated that a limited number of Amazon Fresh stores may eventually reopen as new Whole Foods Market locations, but it is not clear whether any of the Montgomery County sites are included in those future plans.
