Updated to reflect the child has been located unharmed.
A reported ice and water rescue in Olney was resolved safely Monday evening after officials confirmed the child involved had been located unharmed.
At 5:05pm, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service units were dispatched to the 18,200 block of Leman Lake Drive, near Spartan Road and Prince Philip Drive, for a possible ice and water rescue. The initial call was based on secondhand, unverified information suggesting a child may have fallen into the lake.
A 5:19pm update noted that firefighters, water rescue teams, and police were conducting observations of the lake area but found no visible evidence of entry into the water or through the ice.
At 5:48pm, MCFRS confirmed that the child had been located safely at home. According to officials, the child was apparently on the phone with a friend when he fell into the water and the call disconnected, prompting concern. Responders were later notified that the child was nearby at home and not in the lake.
Firefighters and police responded to the scene and conducted a thorough check of the area before receiving confirmation of the child’s location. MCFRS EMS personnel evaluated the child as a precaution. No rescue from the water was required.
