MCPD’s 3rd District Community Action Team seized a loaded handgun and multiple illegal drugs during a traffic stop Thursday night in downtown Silver Spring, according to District Commander Jason Cokinos.
The stop occurred around 8pm on 2/20/26 near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Spring Street. Police say a handgun was observed near the driver during the stop, and the individual was safely removed from the vehicle.
A subsequent search reportedly uncovered a loaded handgun, marijuana along with a scale, approximately 50 fentanyl pills, about 34 MDMA pills, and more than a dozen oxycodone pills. Investigators believe the drugs were possessed with the intent to distribute.
The adult driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle and a Virginia resident, was transported to central booking and charged with felony drug offenses and handgun violations. Additional information about the suspect was not provided. Police praised the officers involved for removing what they described as dangerous drugs and a firearm from the street.
