Pedestrian Struck and Killed By Driver Sunday Evening in Rockville

An adult male pedestrian was killed Sunday evening after being struck by a driver in Rockville, according to Montgomery County police and fire officials.

The collision occurred at Norbeck Road and Avery Road. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service crews responded to the scene and evaluated one adult trauma victim, while multiple lanes were blocked as first responders worked.

At 6:54pm, Montgomery County Police announced that Norbeck Road was closed between Baltimore Road and East Gude Drive due to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian. Avery Road was also closed at Norbeck Road. Police said the driver involved remained on scene and warned drivers to expect significant delays and seek alternate routes.

Shortly after, at 6:58pm, police confirmed that the adult male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating the incident. No additional details have been released at this time. Summary of events per MCPD below:

“The following is a brief summary of events regarding a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Sunday, March 1, 2026 at the intersection of Norbeck Road and Avery Road.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., Montgomery County Police and Fire Rescue personnel responded to the location for the report of a collision involving a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation has revealed that a 2006 Chevy van was traveling northbound on Norbeck Road when the driver struck an adult male pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevy remained on scene. The Collision Reconstruction Unit is investigating this fatality. A news release will be distributed once more details are available, including the name of the decedent, following proper notification of next of kin.”
