MCPD Releases First Weekend Crime Summary Highlighting Incidents Across County

Montgomery County Police have released their first “Weekend Crime Summary,” highlighting several notable incidents reported across the county between March 13 and March 15.

The department shared the recap on social media, noting that the summary is intended to provide a snapshot of recent activity from the past few days and does not represent every call for service handled by officers.

Montgomery County Police operate across six districts, each responsible for patrol services and community outreach in different parts of the county. The 1st District (Rockville Station) covers Rockville, Potomac, Darnestown, and the southern portion of Gaithersburg. The 2nd District (Bethesda Station) serves Bethesda, Chevy Chase, North Bethesda, and southern Potomac. The 3rd District (Silver Spring Station) includes downtown Silver Spring, Burtonsville, Briggs Chaney, and Cloverly. The 4th District (Wheaton Station) covers Wheaton, Glenmont, Olney, and Aspen Hill. The 5th District (Germantown Station) serves Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus, and Boyds. The 6th District (Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village Station) covers the city of Gaithersburg, Montgomery Village, and North Potomac.

Among the incidents included in the report was a fatal crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of Woodfield Road and Glendalough Road. According to police, a two-vehicle collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV resulted in the death of the adult male driver of the truck. The Montgomery County Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate.

Other incidents included a stabbing reported around 3:12am Saturday near the intersection of Georgia Avenue and Silver Spring Avenue. Officers responding to a fight located a victim suffering from multiple stab wounds. A knife was recovered at the scene, and two suspects were located nearby.

Police also reported a carjacking early Saturday morning in the 7900 block of Georgia Avenue. Investigators say a group of armed suspects forcibly removed a woman from her vehicle, assaulted her, and stole her property. The incident was part of what police described as a multi-jurisdiction robbery spree. The stolen vehicle was later recovered.

Several theft-related incidents were also included in the summary. Five catalytic converters were stolen from vehicles at a dealership in the 3100 block of Automobile Boulevard between 2am and 5am on March 13. In a separate incident, a juvenile was assaulted and had his sneakers stolen by three suspects while walking home in the 12800 block of Holdridge Road.

Multiple vehicle thefts were also reported over the weekend, including one taken from a parking lot in the 700 block of Quince Orchard Boulevard and another stolen from a residential area in the 12300 block of Selfridge Road. Police noted there were no signs of forced entry in either case.

Gun-related incidents were also part of the report. In the 19800 block of Crystal Rock Drive, gunfire struck three apartments and a utility garage. Officers recovered multiple shell casings and later identified and arrested a suspect. In another case, a driver discovered a bullet hole in his vehicle after hearing an impact while traveling near Airpark Road and Stratos Lane.

Police also reported several distraction-style thefts, including one in the 15100 block of Frederick Road where a suspect approached a victim in a parking lot and stole her jewelry during a distraction encounter. Similar thefts occurred in the 5500 block of Randolph Road and outside a business in the 400 block of North Frederick Avenue.

In addition, officers arrested a driver for DUI and weapon possession following a hit-and-run crash in the 24600 block of Frederick Road. Police say the driver was intoxicated and found to be in possession of a ghost gun.

Montgomery County Police emphasized that the incidents shared in the summary represent only a portion of the calls handled by officers during the time period.
