Holy Cross Hospital in Silver Spring has begun a full renovation of its emergency department, a major project aimed at improving patient care, safety and the overall experience for families seeking emergency treatment.
Holy Cross Health, part of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic, announced today that the emergency department overhaul is now underway as part of a broader effort to modernize care and better serve the community’s growing needs. The renovation is expected to be completed in 2028.
When finished, the updated emergency department will include more efficient treatment areas designed to reduce wait times and improve patient flow, along with upgraded technology and equipment to support faster diagnosis and treatment. The project will also bring a more comfort-focused design for patients and families, as well as clearer wayfinding signage intended to make navigating the space easier during stressful situations.
“This renovation represents our continued commitment to providing exceptional emergency care close to home,” said Al Campbell, president and market leader of Holy Cross Health Maryland. “By reimagining our emergency department, we are creating a space that better supports our clinical teams and delivers a more comfortable experience for our patients and families.”
Hospital officials said construction will take place in phases so the emergency department can remain fully operational throughout the project. Measures are also being taken to minimize disruptions while maintaining safety, cleanliness and continuity of care for patients.
The renovation is part of Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic’s larger strategy to invest in infrastructure, technology and services across the region.
