Montgomery County Police shared a recap of reported incidents across the county for March 24, 2026, highlighting a mix of burglaries, auto thefts, vandalism, and violent crimes.
The 3rd District, which covers the southeastern portion of the county including Downtown Silver Spring, the Route 29 corridor, Burtonsville, Briggs Chaney, Fairland, and Cloverly, reported a residential burglary at 7:16am in the 9700 block of Mt. Pisgah Road. A suspect broke a window and entered a neighboring apartment before being seen by a witness and leaving the building.
Multiple auto thefts were also reported in the same district. Two vehicles were stolen from apartment parking lots along Castle Boulevard, one occurring between 5:30pm on March 23 and 7:30am on March 24 in the 13800 block, and another between 1pm and 9am in the 14000 block.
In the 4th District, which covers the central-eastern part of the county including Wheaton, Aspen Hill, Olney, and Brookeville, as well as portions of Silver Spring outside the 3rd District, a vehicle was stolen from street parking in the 11700 block of Mentone Road between 8:30pm and 8am.
The 4th District also reported a vandalism incident tied to a social media trend at 7:44pm in the 2400 block of Glenallan Avenue. Police say a juvenile attempted to kick in a front door and later told officers he was participating in a TikTok challenge.
In the 5th District, which serves the upcounty region including Germantown, Clarksburg, Damascus, Boyds, and Poolesville, a theft from auto occurred at 1:09pm in the 23600 block of Cornerstone Lane, where a suspect broke a vehicle window and stole items from inside.
Later that evening in the 5th District, at 8:02pm, an unknown suspect damaged a resident’s door with a fire extinguisher in the 12100 block of Elm Forest Court.
A more serious incident unfolded at 8:13pm in the 22600 block of Newcut Road, also within the 5th District, where a suspect stabbed a victim during an altercation. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and one suspect was arrested.
In the 6th District, which primarily serves Montgomery Village and the unincorporated areas surrounding Gaithersburg, an attempted robbery was reported at 1:30pm near Watkins Mill Road and Apple Ridge Road. Three suspects followed a victim from a nearby school, assaulted him, and attempted to steal his property before school security intervened and the suspects fled.
Later in the afternoon, at 4:51pm, officers were involved in a shooting in the 18400 block of Lost Knife Circle in the 6th District. Police say officers encountered a suspicious individual who fled. During the pursuit, the suspect fired at officers, who returned fire and struck the suspect. A handgun was recovered and the suspect was taken into custody.
