Montgomery County Police have released a summary of reported incidents from Friday, March 27 through Sunday, March 29, highlighting a range of serious crimes across the county, including a fatal shooting, multiple burglaries, auto thefts, and assaults.
The most serious incident occurred Friday night around 10:22pm in the 12900 block of Twinbrook Parkway in the 1st District (Rockville and Potomac), where officers responded to a reported shooting. A victim was found in a parking lot with gunshot wounds. Life-saving efforts were attempted, but the victim was pronounced dead at a local hospital. No suspects have been identified.
Across the three-day period, auto thefts were reported throughout the county, including in the 2nd District (Bethesda and Chevy Chase) on Glenwood Road, the 3rd District (Silver Spring and Takoma Park) on Randolph Road and Whitaker Terrace, the 4th District (Wheaton and Glenmont) on Veirs Mill Road and Chesterfield Road, and the 6th District (Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village) on Melvin Street, where a motorcycle was stolen. In one case, a vehicle was taken after the owner left the key inside while awaiting a tow, while another involved a suspect entering a running vehicle before being located and arrested.
Several burglaries were also reported, including a residential burglary in the 2nd District (Bethesda and Chevy Chase) on Logan Drive, another residential burglary in the 3rd District (Silver Spring and Takoma Park) on Forest Glen Court, and a residential burglary in the 5th District (Germantown and Clarksburg) on Jaeger Road. A commercial burglary involving multiple businesses occurred in the 5th District along Frederick Road, where suspects forced entry into a multi-tenant building. Additional incidents involved school break-ins in the 1st District (Rockville and Potomac) on Randolph Road and in the 3rd District (Silver Spring and Takoma Park) on Luzerne Avenue, where juveniles were identified, arrested, and released to their parents.
On Saturday morning, a serious collision involving a county ambulance and a passenger vehicle occurred at W. Gude Drive and Frederick Road in the 1st District (Rockville and Potomac). The driver of the passenger vehicle was transported to a trauma center with serious injuries.
Weapons-related and violent incidents were reported primarily in the 4th District (Wheaton and Glenmont), including a weapon possession arrest on Veirs Mill Road where officers recovered a loaded handgun and a replica BB gun, an aggravated assault on Georgia Avenue involving a suspect threatening a store employee with a knife, and another aggravated assault on Timberlake Drive where a suspect intentionally struck a victim with a vehicle.
Other notable incidents included a distraction theft in the 1st District (Rockville and Potomac) on Veirs Mill Road, where a suspect swapped a victim’s gold chain with a counterfeit, and a strong-arm robbery in the 6th District (Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village) on Lost Knife Road, where suspects blocked a victim’s vehicle and forcibly stole a watch.
Police note that the summary does not reflect all calls for service during the timeframe, and investigations into several of the incidents remain ongoing.
