Swatting Call, Burglary Spree Highlight MCPD Daily Report Across Multiple Districts

Montgomery County police released a snapshot of reported calls for service across the county on April 2, 2026, highlighting a mix of thefts, burglaries, and other incidents across multiple districts.

Among the more notable reports was a swatting call at Winston Churchill High School in the 1st District, where someone falsely reported an active threat inside the building. Officers checked the school and confirmed there was no danger. School was not in session at the time due to spring break.

A series of commercial burglaries was also reported in the 3rd District (Silver Spring area) during the early morning hours along Georgia Avenue, Sligo Avenue, and Piney Branch Road, where suspects in a black vehicle attempted to break into multiple businesses.

Auto-related crimes made up a significant portion of the report across multiple districts. In the 4th District (Wheaton area), a vehicle was stolen from a gas station on Randolph Road. In the 6th District (Gaithersburg/Montgomery Village area), another vehicle was taken overnight from a parking lot on Timberbrook Lane. In the 4th District, a vehicle was also stolen on Ferrara Avenue after being left running. In the 2nd District (Bethesda/Chevy Chase area), masked suspects were reported trying car door handles on Albemarle Street, entering at least one unlocked vehicle and stealing items.

Police also reported a catalytic converter theft in the 1st District (Rockville area), where a truck was targeted at a business on Crabbs Branch Way. Several burglary incidents were included in the summary. In the 2nd District, a suspect broke into a vacant apartment on Plyers Mill Road. In the 5th District (Germantown/Clarksburg area), a vacant residence on Warrior Brook Drive was entered through a broken window. Another commercial burglary in the 6th District on Medical Center Drive resulted in an arrest after a suspect was located nearby.

A weapon-related arrest occurred in the 5th District during a traffic stop at Frederick Road and Boland Farm Road, where officers recovered a loaded ghost gun and an extended magazine. A 17-year-old was arrested and charged as an adult.
