Freeze Warning Issued Across Parts of Maryland and Northern Virginia

A Freeze Warning is in effect across parts of Maryland, including all of Montgomery County, from midnight tonight through 9am Wednesday, with temperatures expected to drop as low as 27°. Another round of freezing temperatures is possible late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

This is one of those early-spring cold snaps that can do real damage, especially since plants have already started growing. What this means in plain terms:

  • Anything sensitive outside is at risk
  • Frost can form even if you don’t see ice
  • Pipes in exposed areas could freeze if not protected

What you should do today:

  • Bring potted plants indoors or into a garage
  • Cover outdoor plants with sheets, blankets, or frost cloth (avoid plastic directly on leaves)
  • Water plants lightly before sunset, it can help reduce frost damage
  • Disconnect hoses and cover outdoor faucets if you haven’t already
  • Bring pets inside overnight

The second freeze window Wednesday night into Thursday morning could catch people off guard, so don’t put everything back out too quickly. If you’ve already planted flowers or early vegetables, this is the kind of cold that can wipe them out overnight without protection.
