The Washington Spirit have delivered the most successful kit launch in the NWSL so far in 2026, leading the league in both jersey sales and social media impressions, according to the league’s announcement Thursday.
The club’s popularity is reflected in individual player sales as well. Trinity Rodman holds the top-selling jersey across the entire league, with her sales jumping 136 percent compared to last year. She is joined by five teammates in the top eight overall: Hal Hershfelt at number three, Tara Rudd at number four, Esme Morgan at number five, Rosemonde Kouassi at number six, and Leicy Santos at number eight. The Spirit also have more than double the number of players in the top 20 compared to any other club in the league.
The surge in demand follows the February 26 unveiling of the team’s new “Spirit in Bloom” kit, which quickly gained traction among fans. First-day sales more than doubled those of last year’s release. The design features a bold blossom pink paired with Spirit Green, incorporating cherry blossom branches across the front to reflect Washington, D.C.’s identity and its connection to the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers.
Team CEO Kim Stone said the kit was created in direct response to fan feedback, particularly the desire for a cherry blossom-themed look that represents the District. That connection appears to have resonated well beyond the local fanbase, with the jerseys now among the most visible across the league. The momentum extended to social media, where the Spirit ranked first in impressions thanks to a coordinated rollout campaign. The club also won the league’s BraKIT fan vote, beating all 15 other teams for the top new kit.
Fans will get a chance to see the team back on the field soon, as the Spirit return to Audi Field on Friday, April 24 at 8pm to face the reigning shield winners, the Kansas City Current.
