MCPD April 8 Crime Summary Includes Robbery, School Hate Incident, Multiple Thefts

Montgomery County police responded to a range of incidents across multiple districts on April 8, including burglaries, auto thefts, a robbery, and a hate/bias incident at a local elementary school.

In the 1st District, which covers Rockville and surrounding areas, officers investigated a residential burglary on the 800 block of Pleasant Drive, where a suspect drilled through a door lock to gain entry and stole property. Later in the day, a vehicle was stolen from a pharmacy parking lot in the 15200 block of Shady Grove Road.

The 2nd District, covering Bethesda and Chevy Chase, saw several thefts from vehicles, including a catalytic converter stolen from a car on the 5800 block of Wyngate Drive. Tools were also taken from a work vehicle on Willard Avenue, and in a separate incident on Saratoga Avenue, suspects broke into two work trucks and stole property, including a handgun. Police are also investigating a series of construction site thefts involving copper piping taken from multiple townhomes under construction on Dulcet Drive and Academy Park Drive.

In the 3rd District, which includes Silver Spring and surrounding communities, two overnight auto thefts were reported on Crosswood Court and Hampton Point Drive, both occurring between April 7 and April 8.

The 4th District, covering Wheaton and Glenmont, saw three suspects arrested after being found inside a vacant apartment with signs of forced entry on Glenallan Avenue. Officers also made an arrest during a traffic stop at Connecticut Avenue and Carey Street, recovering a handgun and a quantity of controlled dangerous substances.

In the 5th District, which includes Germantown and Clarksburg, police reported a spree involving an auto theft and multiple vehicle break-ins on Abbotsford Circle. In a separate incident on Mustard Seed Court, two masked suspects followed a victim before assaulting him and stealing property.

In the 6th District, covering Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village, a distraction theft occurred in a parking lot on Darnestown Road, where suspects engaged a victim in conversation before removing a gold bracelet without her knowledge. Police also responded to a hate/bias incident at Fields Road Elementary School, where a student shared a threatening image targeting a Muslim classmate. The case remains under investigation. Later that evening, a suspect was arrested for stalking after being observed peering into a resident’s apartment window on Sweet Autumn Drive.
