Kitchen Social’s future Downtown Crown location is moving into the next phase, with a $2 million permit now issued for interior work at the restaurant’s first Maryland outpost.
According to the permit, the approved work includes building out the new restaurant’s interior, making minor facade changes to the storefront, and installing a new exterior canopy. Before that work begins, the project will also involve demolition of the existing canopy structure left from the previous tenant, along with demolition of part of the exterior storefront to make way for new overhead doors.
The restaurant is taking over the former Paladar Latin Kitchen & Rum Bar space at 203 Crown Park Avenue in Gaithersburg. The newly issued permit marks a major step forward for the project and signals that visible construction activity should begin picking up soon.
As previously reported, “Coming Soon” signage went up at the site earlier this year, offering the first clear exterior sign that Kitchen Social was moving ahead with its plans for the space. At the time, the Ohio-based restaurant group was targeting a summer 2026 opening for what will be its first location in Maryland.
Paladar closed its Gaithersburg restaurant in May 2024 after nearly a decade in the community. Kitchen Social is set to replace it with a modern American comfort food concept centered on scratch-made dishes, a lively bar scene, and a social, community-driven atmosphere.
The restaurant is known for menu items such as house-made pretzels with cheese fondue, crispy Brussels sprouts, deviled eggs, short rib risotto, Korean BBQ salmon, Nashville hot chicken, and wood-grilled steaks, along with craft cocktails, local beer, and wine. The concept also features an open-kitchen layout designed to add to the energetic feel of the dining experience.
With demolition and construction work now formally lined up, the Downtown Crown restaurant appears to be moving steadily toward a 2026 debut.
