A fundraiser is underway to help purchase championship rings for the James Hubert Blake High School boys varsity basketball team following their historic state title win.
The team made school history this season by capturing Blake’s first-ever 4A state championship, a milestone achieved by 15 players and six coaches after months of hard work and dedication.
Despite the accomplishment, Montgomery County Public Schools does not cover the cost of championship rings. With 21 rings needed, the expense has become a challenge for many families. In response, the team and their families made a collective decision that either everyone receives a ring or no one does.
Organizers say the rings represent more than just recognition, they serve as a lasting memory of a once-in-a-lifetime achievement, especially for the team’s 12 graduating seniors.
The GoFundMe campaign has already received strong community support, but remains short of its goal. A contribution of any size will help ensure every player and coach is able to be part of the celebration. Montgomery County Councilmember Kristin Mink recently shared the fundraiser to help boost awareness.
