“Coming soon” signage is now up at the future Arby’s location in Derwood, marking the latest step in the restaurant’s return to Montgomery County.
The signs, now added to the building at 7200 Muncaster Mill Road in the Red Mill Shops shopping center, show the first signs of progress at the former McDonald’s site, which closed permanently on March 15 after serving the community for decades.
As previously reported, Arby’s signed on to take over the longtime drive-thru location shortly before the McDonald’s closure. In the weeks leading up to that transition, exterior signage was removed and the property began its shift to new ownership.
The site has a long history in the area, having previously operated as a Roy Rogers and a Hardee’s before becoming a McDonald’s. Built in 1985, the building has remained a consistent presence in the Derwood community for more than 40 years.
While an official opening date has not yet been announced, the addition of “coming soon” signage suggests that renovation work is progressing and that Arby’s is moving closer to reopening in Montgomery County later this year.
