The Washington Commanders have added a strong leg to their roster, signing former Iowa kicker Drew Stevens as an undrafted free agent following the 2026 NFL Draft. He will compete with the returning Jake Moody for a chance to be the team’s kicker.
Stevens is already generating buzz after connecting on a 72-yard field goal in a recent training video, a distance that, while unofficial, highlights the kind of range that made him one of the most productive kickers in college football. A video of the kick can be seen below.
During his career at Iowa, Stevens put together one of the most decorated résumés in program history. He scored 352 career points, the second-most in school history, while converting 76 of 95 field goal attempts and 124 of 126 extra points. His 76 made field goals set a school record and rank fourth in Big Ten history, and he also established Iowa records for most 50-plus yard field goals with 12 and a career-long make of 58 yards.
That 58-yard kick, which came against No. 9 Oregon in 2025, tied both a school and Kinnick Stadium record and stood as one of the longest field goals in the country that season. Stevens consistently delivered in big moments as well, recording four career game-winning field goals, including a 44-yarder in a 20-17 win over Michigan State in 2025.
In his final season, Stevens earned third-team All-Big Ten honors from the media and honorable mention recognition from coaches. He led Iowa in scoring with 107 points, finishing 22-of-28 on field goals, including four makes from beyond 50 yards. His 22 made field goals ranked third in a single season in program history, and he finished among the top kickers nationally in field goals made per game.
Beyond field goals, Stevens handled kickoff duties throughout his career, recording 259 kickoffs with 147 touchbacks, showcasing both leg strength and consistency.
