Montgomery County police reported a range of incidents across the county over the weekend, including multiple auto thefts, burglaries, assaults, and two hate-bias incidents at local schools.
In the Rockville and Potomac areas, which fall under the county’s 1st District, several incidents were reported involving schools and commercial properties. A suspicious person entered Rockville High School after following students through secured doors but left when confronted by staff. At Winston Churchill High School, threatening statements were made toward a student by individuals from another school. Commercial burglaries were also reported, including a break-in at a vacant building on West Montgomery Avenue and a construction site on Henson Norris Street where materials were stolen overnight. A catalytic converter theft was also reported in the area.
In the Bethesda and Chevy Chase areas, which make up the 2nd District, police reported a copper theft on Elmhurst Drive, where a suspect was captured on video removing downspouts from a residence. A commercial burglary was also reported at a school on Fernwood Road, where staff found a window open, though nothing was taken. Over the weekend, an aggravated assault involving a knife was reported on Grand Park Avenue, where a victim was hospitalized with stab wounds.
In the Silver Spring and Takoma Park areas, which fall under the 3rd District, a number of auto thefts were reported, including incidents on Hampshire West Court, July Drive, and Mt. Pisgah Road. A separate incident near Thayer Avenue and Fenton Street involved a suspect pointing a handgun at a victim before fleeing. Another catalytic converter theft was reported on St. Lawrence Drive.
In the Wheaton and Aspen Hill areas, covered by the 4th District, police reported an overnight auto theft on Georgia Avenue. Two hate-bias incidents were also reported at local schools. Anti-Semitic graffiti was discovered at Greenwood Elementary School on Gold Mine Road, and hate-related graffiti was later found at Olney Elementary School on Queen Mary Drive.
In the Germantown and Clarksburg areas, which fall under the 5th District, a vehicle was stolen on Seneca Meadows Parkway after keys were taken from a locker at a fitness center. A residential burglary was also reported on Crystal Rock Drive, where a suspect entered an apartment following an argument and displayed a handgun during the incident.
In the Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village areas, which make up the 6th District, multiple auto thefts were reported, including incidents on Barnesfield Court and at a dealership on Oakmont Avenue. Another incident on Washingtonian Boulevard involved suspects breaking into multiple vehicles inside a parking garage before stealing a car with keys left inside.
